Project: Plant Decommissioning and Removal, Underground Tunnel System
Client: BT
British Telecom engaged KpH for major works in deep tunnels under Holborn’s central business district. The scope of works involved the removal of numerous tanks from within the underground network some 50 metres below the City of London. Due to stringent health & safety regulations involved with works of this nature within confined spaces, the tanks each being fabricated of steel 8mm in thickness, were fragmented into manageable sections using specialist cold cutting techniques as hot works were not permitted.
A pro-active approach to surveying and assessing the potential risk involved in the work was a major factor in the successful delivery of this project. From the correct equipment and techniques required to cut out and dismantle plant through to the methods of transporting waste down half a mile of narrow tunnel, KpH had the experience and expertise to complete the works safely on time and within budget.
